Problems selling original songs?
Comst’s comments had very valid arguments in it under the post “What do you look for in a band” posted by Dylan. I believe in order to sell original music, it must be played over and over again for people to accept it. This may mean securing air time, getting reviewed in papers and magazines, advertising, podcasting, downloads with licenses, etc.
There is no point in just getting on a show and playing all originals when no one has ever heard it before. It just won’t work. Audiences need to be pre-conditioned. So what is the solution to this? Would the new licenses for more radio stations pave a way for this? Better relations between the bands, composers and the media? Having own websites podcast? What’s the best way for the bands with original content to get exposure?
I believe that the first initiative has to come from the bands and composers themselves, to sell and market their material. Perhaps it is about time that the bands and composes decided on what they have in common, rather than their differences. Differences will always exist, it is part of this business; on a positive note, it creates competition and variety. But if the bands could join forces to market their material, with persistency and not a one time affair, it would certainly have better results.

The only way i think it wil work is.
1st consider this, musicians are very sensitive. and yeah, the public needs to be pretuned to that song over and over, b4 they hear it done on stage.
so how i think a new band should come out is, 1st go to a simple studio, (i know one that charges rf 500/song) and make the songs, it would probably take a month or more, if u have no personal issues.
you make ur close freinds listen to what u gotm and ask them what they really like, then do a video for that song. this is a sad fact, cos, we dont have real music stations, or no one really enjoys the music thats played from the radio station, hope im not offending anyone.so the only option is the tv. whats ironic is u r tryin to show somethin thats meant for the ears, to be heard by the eyes. anyways, nothings perfect, same for my explanation.
well, once the song is out, u have to get the lisence, there is a buliding near olympus, get a form and go to one of the 15 houses thats listed, and get their approval (i know its crazy).
once ppl really like your song or songs, its about time u release your cd, the best way is through a performance, collaborated with someone famous wil give give u extra kinetic energy (some words just sound better), and there it self u can sell ur cd. just remember, more than 90% will be ripped on the pc and shared, so a good way is you do this swipe away code on each cd (like on a phone card) , where the buyer can download free video samples from your website, or maybe a free t shirt, by entering that code.
What’s your opinion? (hehe)

correction : b4 the song is out u need the lisence, for the lyrics. Most probably a political justification.

There are some interesting developments on this in the air. I’ve heard some promoting and lobbying the idea for some sort of legislation or policy to prohibit or reduce stolen compositions topped up with Dhivehi lyrics on the air.
