Male’ Blues – by Justin Wah
Justin Wah came to Maldives as a friend of Fasy for FASY Live which was held on 16th February. He sang some blues such as Red House for Fasy in his show. During his time in Male’, he enjoyed both the uniquenesses and oddities of Maldivian life and found “Koththu Roshi” at the restaurants to be among his favourite dishes. After the show, he had a good holiday with the band and he wrote a blues – “Male’ Blues”. According to him, he started feeling the Male’ blues when he was on holiday and wrote this song.
MUSICinMALDIVES.com obtained the lyrics courtesy of Justin. This blues has yet to be recorded and MUSICinMALDIVES.com will publish the audio as soon as it is available.

MALE’ BLUES (by Justin Wah)
The palms were swaying when I reached my destination
Plane touched down in Male’, I walked straight through immigration
Two days in Male’ town, but the bands not here
And worst of all, I can’t even buy a beer!
I got the Male’ Blues
But they ain’t so bad
I got the Male’ Blues
Best blues I’ve ever had
The guitar on stage was wailing with a roar
The bass was so heavy, it moved the floor
The drums were hot and ended with a crash
The crowd went wild, three hours passed in a flash
I got the Male’ Blues
And the feel so good
I got the Male’ Blues
Don’t you wish you could – feel it
(Fasy plays an out of this world SOLO)
We rocked so hard, the lights fell down
Fasy looked at us and said we better leave town
We hopped on a boat to an island in the sun
Like Paul McCartney said… we are a band on the run
I got the Male’ Blues
But it feels alright
I got the Male’ Blues
Wish I had every single night
Gigging round the islands it was out of sight
Buffet meals and snorkeling gear, the band played so tight
Now its time to go, but I really want to stay
I’m gonna miss you all and that groovy sound we play
I got the Male’ Blues, I don’t wanna go away
I got the Male’ Blues, Lord I wish I could stay
We got the Male’ Blues… We got the Male’ Blues… We got the Male’ Blues…

Justin, better ‘Kothu roshi’ can be found at Restoran Ismail in Taman Tun. Try it with their special fried chicken. Male’ ‘kothu roshi’ is garbage.

extra bit: they call it roti goreng.

hey thanks…ill go and try it…but although the kothu may be more tasty, the scenery will be a let down!! Nothing like sitting on the top floor of the Dolphin View and having tuna fried noodles (the kothu not so great there, but the noodles are!)..ps where were the dolphins????

koththu roshi is not originally a maldivian dish. its a Sri-lanka dish.
May 12th, 2006 at 11:31
shouldn’t we be talking about “Male’ Blues” here, instead of KOTHU ROSHI….
