Poll Results: Ideal Ticket Price is MRf26/= through MRf50/=
According to this MUSICinMALDIVES.com’s online survey, the ideal ticket price for a music event featuring local artists is between MRf 26/= and MRf 50/=.
Assuming that, on an average, MRf 300,000/= is spent in organizing a medium-scale event, the audience numbers have to be between 11,540 (for a ticket price of MRf26/=) and 6,000 (for a ticket price of MRf50/=) for the event to break-even. This is highly unlikely as lately, the audience numbers are somewhere in between 1,000 to 3,000 pax on an average.
That means event organizers could cash-in something like MRf26,000/= through MRf 78,000/= on a worst-case scenario, from the ticket sales. Hence, the rest of the money would have to come from sponsors or donations, which would amount to approximately MRf222,000/= through MRf274,000/=. It is these high costs that hinder more frequent and regular events.
As for small gigs, re-introducing a fairly priced ticket or entrance charge for small scale gigs at cafe’s might encourage a more supportive crowd and an incentive for both the artists/bands and venues as well. It may pave the way for a supportive community to pay for inspirational bands / artists to perform, visiting or otherwise. After all, you get what you pay for.
