Practice Rooms Found – To be Lost
An ideal location for a practice room would be some place that is peaceful and private, with low rents and away from the bustling community and housing. It needs to be peaceful because, musicians need space to be inspired. A nearby cafeteria would certainly be a blessing.
One such place that has attracted recent attention is the blocks facing the beach at the Alimas Ufaa Carnival premises. It is reported that twelve bands are practicing in six rooms here. There are four blocks facing the beach, the back-stage and one nearby for a rent of approximately MRf3,500/= per month.
Perhaps it is a natural process that is driving the bands to these blocks – one with favorable conditions. Wouldn’t it be great to have such an area zoned or reserved for artistic endeavors? It would always be better to develop on favorable circumstances rather than on the impossible. Musicians and bands would need to lobby for such ideas collectively to gain some ground on such matters.
The bands practicing here in no particular order are Message, M Crew, Live Wire, Fasylive, Sultans, 440 (Four-forty), Flower Rain, Amazon Jade, Serenity Dies, Sacred Legacy, Tormenta and Juke Box.
Since the current occupants and tenants are on an uncertain extended term, these dream blocks for practice rooms are sure to be short lived. What then? Move them to Hulhu-Male’?

It may sound like a dream location for all bands (or a large number of bands) to have a space like the carnival blocks to practise in: Space, reasonable facilities etc etc and an altogether cheap rent compaired to alternatives in Male’ (we pay 3500mrf per month without electricity).
But in reality this area is not so great for a few reasons: Our room is located next door to fasylive (I love u buddy!) which is fine when you take a break to be able to them practise but unfortunatly you cant practise at the same time as it is far too noisy. Fortunatly we both have arranged to practise at different times. We were the second band to move to the carnival ground and since more have moved in the noise is really increasing. Secondly the electric also causes issues as both of our keyboards now have LCD problems after the electric shorted.
All in all I agree this area should be given to entertainers (not just bands) on a perminent basis this would then enable us to make changes such as soundproofing, A/C and electrical repairs etc, as these are additional expenses we are unwilling to payout for somewhere temporary.
We should definatly get together to discuss these issues as together we can really make a difference throughout the industry.

its great how u guys work out things in between but some times maapu has to know what he really talks about. its better to look both sides and then talk about of an issue. me i personally will ask once again to mauroof not to spread rumors about other bands specially regarding the rates that the other bands perfrom.

Hello my dear ex-manager, Mauroof Khaleel ( Maapu ).
so lets call SULTANS the 4th Band in Carnival History of Noisy Bands.
I would like to inform and make you understand that Sultans is not the second band who moved in to Alimas Carnival. I guess Amazon Jade, I dunno the second band name..very sorry abt this.. and its Fasylive then SULTANS.
***Not an insult ingey.. hama hageegee haadhisaa akah binaa koh liyefa oii comment eh mee!***

@thoz…… for your info ok…. Since when is it a problem to get the rates increased for ALL bands!!!??? Since when is it a problem to try and get better practice rooms and facilities for ALL bands!!??? Since when is it a problem to increase the rights of ALL in this industry!!??
I think you have missunderstood, my intentions were to show another point of view to the blog posted and find a solution and middle ground to make all happy.
I said it once and I will say it again, things will not change unless we try to make solutions together……not argue between ourselves!
My dear Obofili….well what can I say buddy 1st, 10th or 100th band to move into the carnival I dont really see what difference it makes (lol)……

I wish there was someplace with a drumset and electricity where smaller bands that just want to Jam can practice. At a small fee us students can afford too (I’m saving up to buy a bass guitar that costs just a little over 3500; shelling out 3500 A MONTH??!?!). They could have sign up sheets and a rotating timetable so that it’ll be fair and such.

i agree with Hani, there should be another way for smaller bands to practice coz they are the generation we sought our efforts to, not just for ppl who cud afford a million bucks, all i cud say is that the efforts made are STILL far tooooooo LOW than that must be made. The government should do something about this soon enough for the music to grow in Maldives.

WE DEMAND FOR GOOD PRACTICE ROOMS!!!!!!!!!!
March 12th, 2007 at 00:57
Lets keep the Gov outta this eh? we all know that all they’re gud at is making “Patriotic” songs on TVM.. But Hani n Maasey’s got a point.. most of the new bands start out without a drumset and/or a drummer (due to the lack of space/money or angry neighbours/parents) we’ve all been there..
nice idea..
cheers
