Original Dhivehi Music Info Needed

Hi Guys,
I am a great fan of Original Dhivehi Compositions. I have been collecting these originals for the last few months, a task which I have not completed yet. I wonder if you guys could help me in this process. What I need is the titles of Original Dhivehi compositions to check whether I’ve missed any of them. Titles like: “Eyzamaanaa vaguth dhiyaee”, “Echcheh Kalheh”, “Dhiruvi nishaan”, “Bahaarekey”, “Bulbul eheedheynuhey” – to give you an idea. Your site has a great fan base with tremendous knowledge of music. I am confident that my dream of compiling the database would become a reality soon. Once I get the names of the songs (probably with the production year and the performer or the composer), I would try and get other details and the track. I will be hosting a website with these music tracks, soon. I hope “Music in Maldives” would keep on reminding the local music lovers to mail me the details. I guess this is one of your objectives running a website like this. I have even discovered a few tracks of early seventies hits, which you would not have heard before. I shall post them on my website soon. So, keep on contributing with your knowledge of Original music compositions. My email: musicinmaldives@gmail.com (not related to this site). I will mail you an online ‘gift’ for every contribution I recieve. Thanks in advance.
Regards
Hussain

    hello hussain,
how do you define “Original Dhivehi Compositions” ?

  2. next_president Says:

referring to your titles , it’s wise to check if there is any tune from bangaladesh , india or srilanka which is similar to the titles you provided!!! it has often happened in the maldives !!!

famous singer abdul hannan moosa didi , did copy some asian tunes and claimed it his own composition!!!!!!!

  3. mondhu Says:

Hey buddy, beware of 70′s so called ‘originals’. Most of them are improvised versions of the then world famous melodies. For example, “Dhiruvinishaan nishaaney mibahaaraa…” is not an original Maldivian composition. It is “”Bésame Mucho” a Mexican song written in 1940 by Consuelo Velázquez. Your sources may mislead you. You are doing a good work for a great cause. Its a pity that no one has taken the initiative to compile such work during the past. Not even the authorities in concern. I wish you all the best in your endeavour. Anxiously waiting to visit your website.

  4. next_president Says:

    mondhu you are 100% correct.

  5. Al-basso Says:

Even “Bahaarekey” is orginally “Malaika” – an african song.

Dear Hussain, its wonderful that u’ve so much interest in Dhivehi music… I mean original music. But I suggest that u catagorise these song…. so that the chance of missing will be verymuch reduced. Also I suggest that instead of uploading a list of songs (which anybody can do), get as much information from the composers and publish. Information abt the performer or the production year is not enough. This will help u understand the authenticity of these songs… (to other listners and viewers as well) And do consider mondhu’s comment… he’s very true… not only 70′s it has happened in the 80s too.. some of my fellow musicians have actually shown me how they do this kind of improvisations.. and their final product too…

By the way…. I hope your collection is going to be songs composed by Maldivians… (Dhivehin). In any phase, if you think of heading towards “Dhivehivantha lava” (often heard and debated) you are in trouble my friend. Cos one thing its a dead end… the other,… you have to start composing…. Good luck!

Thanks for the help you’ve extended to me by commenting on my request. I have recieved a number of mails from fans of MIM. Infact, I recieved some mp3 music files of original music. Thanks to all of you. There is one more favour you could do. Please scrutinise the following list of titles I have recieved by mail and post your opinions on its credibility. 9. ikram Says:

    Hi Hussain,
I hope u are aware that u need to get the rights to do such a thing. Of course one might argue with this point but have some decency.
There was a bit of a problem when someone reproduced “Lolakah Ninjeh Naadhey” (20) for a TV ad. This issue came up just few months earlier.

“Eymala” (23) is a song I did contribute. resemblance of any portion of this song with another is surely a coincidence. But get the rights!
Years back, I happen to work with Fenthashi Khaleel & Mayna Khassan (both very gifted melody writers) and I can say that there songs are quite original.

In general I think we have very created artists in Maldives as far as melody writing is concerned. But unfortunately poor arrangers and recording artists. The reason; hardly any quality is controlled. We cannot expect the buyer to decide the quality…. not in Maldives.
Anyways good luck with your work.

  10. frustrater Says:

Ha! Haaa! Hey Vampire! which is weired? Dhivehi music or Rock musc? I think Rock… cos nobody goes banging his or her head while listening to “Dhivehi music”. Come on! have some decency… its time u crawl out of your shell and see the world in a better perspective! And hey! Rock Vampire…. just see if you can describe Rock music in two words…. if u cant.. well I guess u have a lot to learn about Rock music.

  11. next_president Says:

ikram , “lolakah ninjeh naadhey” i am sure that it’s a foreign tune , Maldivians copied it without proper rights just like most of the time .And why the hell on earth you are taking about decency.

in here there’s no copyright law.

It has been a custom to copy foreign tunes and release them as own creations or compositions in the Maldives by the so called musicians or singers.

  12. ikram Says:

Hi Next President (Hopefully not Maldives),
If u’r so sure, why dont u tell me who’s the original composer of Lolakah Ninjeh Naadhey is….? We cant be sure unless u submit some sort of proof. Where the hell were u when the issue was raised. Dont tell me u didn know. At least inform NBC regarding this song if u think that I’m too small, humble or inadequate to reveal this. Or perhaps inappropriate…. as often heard!

Oh! Yes, the copyright law is not yet implemented. Thats exactly why I said “have some decency”. I actually meant to have some respect towards other artists and their work no matter what the sort of a background they have. Cos Mr. President (Not ours), let me tell u…. An artist’s creativity and his ability to interpret his feelings, inspirations or ideas in music are not things u only learn in a music academy. Its about a gifted talent and how well u utilize it. So u need to respect this. But I guess u wont understand this…. This is why I’ve also said “one might argue with this point”.

I now know for sure that u only read music in newspapers….. u’re not a musician nor an artist. With that kinda mentality I’m sure u wont even have any true friends whom we can regard as musicians in Maldives. Do u realize how many talented children’s willingness in art u’r destroying by this sort of intervention? Come on President (hopefully not of Maldives)!

Frustrater is very true….. Its time u come out of your shell and see the world in a better perspective… U really need to learn a lot about music in Maldives. U need to spend time and listen to musicians…. not just ONE but all of them. There are reasons for all the happenings u’ve mentioned. Its time to get the answers for WHY and work on HOW and let that not repeat in the future. Its time we work together with everyone. Not with u’r friends and classmates alone. Cos thats how u practice discrimination.

  13. Hardcore Says:

    talking abt original composer …
Well I believe we are so Influence by the bollywood music industry that it is almost impossible for many artists in the Maldives to be unaffected by this massive presence of this style of music, dance, fashion and even movies. I personally believe that these are so alien to us, but sadly can been seen at every corner of our society. Hussain, have so much respect for your work, I think it abt time some one did some think abt it. Good luck to you! (Just my thoughts)
