Fête de la Musique – World Music Day

On the success of the first Fête de la Musique held in the Maldives last year which was initiated by the Association Franco-Maldivienne, we are well into organizing the event this year too. The event will be held at the Artificial Beach and will be spread over a period of two days – 20th and 21st of this month. While there were only a few bands/groups taking part last year, we are expecting to have many more bands/groups this year. We are extremely happy that the likes of Nashid and Mohoj from Zero Degrees, Habeeb from Island Music, An’du from Music House are actively involved in its organization this year.

Launched in 1982 by the French Ministry for Culture, the Fête de la Musique is now held in more than 100 countries in Europe and the world over, where musicians perform for the love of music free of charge and those who love music come to enjoy it.

By organizing the festival, we hope to provide a platform for the young musicians to show their talent and thereby make entry into the industry. We also hope that providing such a platform, we would attract more native music like Bodu Beru and Thaara to flourish.

For reasons explained, we have decided it will be wise not to try holding the event somehow with the type of technicalities and constraints that we have right now. However, we are all very enthusiastic to hold the event next year on a much more organized and a bigger scale. All our sponsors, musicians and well wishes are on board to make a great one next year.
