Music Association of Maldives
Music Association of Maldives (MAM) which commenced in 15th March 2009, is the industry body for the music sector, including composers, songwriters, lyricists, performers and music publishers.
Activities fall into separate groups: promoting the interests of the industry and growing the number of Maldivians who play music for their education, for health or for fun, and regardless of age or music genre.
The MAS acts with no bias. Our philosophy is, to act on behalf and for the benefit of all, neither harming nor advantaging any individual member. The MAM would work mainly on 4 objectives:
- Researching the history of Maldivian Music and develop the diminishing cultural music of Maldives. Hence, creating a hype of Maldivian influenced music to be aired even on the media levels
- Creating a collective management society to aid artist’s original works with the help of government entities and laws
- Making a platform for the new and current musicians, who are based upon commercial music performance, mainly resort music.
- Negotiating and implementation with interested foreign parties, so as to bring an international recognized music school to the Maldives and further exchange programs
All these visions could be carried with the help of all related personnel in the music scene and we need your utmost ideas and help to implement these goals. With regard to this, we are inviting all musicians to a brainstorming session with us, on the 6th of July 2009 at 12.00pm, in the MCSE seminar room.

i will be there.
thanks for the initiative on making such arrangements. i believe all musicians have the same goal here – which is to make this industry a successful one (regardless of how impossible we’ve been taught it would be all these years)
if there is a will there will be a way.
mainly i think the most important thing right now is to simply note down the problem with this music scene here in male’. so please collect your thoughts and bring them to the meeting on the 6th of july. write them down.
All ideas will be accepted and heard. So it is very important that you musicians COME to this meeting and work to make things better than they are BECAUSE its about time.

an association of music(s) or musicians?
July 4th, 2009 at 17:07
Its interesting and I’m eager to attend this. You have mentioned about Maldivians who play music for their education, for health or for fun… was wondering why miss all those who are struggling to survive in the commercial scene.
All the best…

@ Picasso : I think this goes to all who are involved in this music scene here. Even the commercial bands.
As of now we have contacted a lot of bands (commercial and others too) But this still needs to reach ALL of them because this is the time to do these kinda things. So help the association contact all the bands that you know and let them know that something is going down, because their ideas are needed for it to extinguish the problems we are all facing here in this music industry.
@ muso : an association for music (and musicians)

Does the language in this post have any resemble to http://www.australianmusic.asn.au/ website?
Please don’t plagiarize philosophies and concepts when you don’t know what you’re talking about! Philosophies and concepts don’t work on a copy and paste basis, by changing a few words and sentences here and there.
When you plagiarize and inject a few ideas and sentences of your own, the whole thing is a mess. I see you jumping from the plagiarized philosophy to objectives. How do you expect that to work?
See what happens when you plagiarize: you end up claiming that
“Music Association of Maldives (MAM) . . . is the industry body for the music sector” ha! You are not, you have to yet become one!
To call yourselves musicians, start with something original . . . please!

whats ur problem dude? seriously..
does it matter that the words were taken from a particular website? nobody is claiming anything here. i couldn’t careless about you wasting your time trying to find a fraud in all of us. ur negativity disgusts me… support a good cause for a change…

Good luck with it and have a good get together. I hope this thing does not turn in to a lobby by some opportunists. please don’t mess with the creative freedom that we have now.
All i have to say about getreal’s comments about plagiarism and copying is that creativity in Maldives is at an infant stage right now so its OK. Kids grow by copying what the elders do. So the future is bright.

when is the next meeting????
July 11th, 2009 at 03:52
The next meeting would be held within a very short period of time. Main purpose in the next gathering would be to make an advisory board within the members to work with the board of directors to make a long term action plan, so as to implement our objectives that we have highlighted during the first meeting. Thank you all for the constructive comments in here, that we would surely take into account to improve us in our further endeavors.
To become a member or for more info about MAS, do not hesitate to call 3329888 or 7786110

COMPOSER NEEDED from the Maldives, to write a short one-minute piano piece for a special Commonwealth event.
Doesn’t matter if you’ve never written for piano before. A brilliant international pianist-director will work with you and play your piece in several Commonwealth events in London, Trinidad and elsewhere.
No commission fee, I’m afraid, but lots of publicity and exposure for the chosen composer. Please get in touch for more information.
