Malaysia Breakout for Maldives Breakout

mybreakoutformvbreakoutA facebook group claims that they are organizing a show case event, said to start on 9th August 2009, to pick one band from Malaysia to play in the Maldives Breakout Festival,  “…an International music festival in Maldives.”

The group’s page also states that:

“The winning band will be playing in the Maldives BREAKOUT Festival (all expenses paid), and share a stage with emerging bands from Asia and selected UK/Europe bands.”

Interesting… sources from UK says: Antonio, chief music executive of Jar Music, is promoting the Maldives Breakout Festival there. His speculation: “the last Breakout Festival in Maldives was attended by 15,000 people and both MTV and AOL covered this event”. Is this for real..? I wonder what’s the motif… Is it going to do any good for the local musicians or its just Jar Music, with a room size office in London, trying to build their reputation. TRAFFIC JAM, the last winner is now skeptical about this festival. So are several other bands. Wonder what happened for the winner’s UK tour. But hey, no worries… just curious…………….

This brings me back to ask anyone reading this… what happened to Traffic Jam after the last breakout? did they goto uk? Anyone paid their (all) expenses? What’s the status?

Its rather disappointing to know that last year’s winner, Trafic Jam, is still dreaming of the awarded UK tour. Considering all the disputes and arguments during the 2008 festival, it is much likely that this year, very young incompetent musicians will join in. I understand that Jar Music has appointed TwoCompany as their local agent, which is managed by Shaz, who also manages Traffic Jam. Some say that this is to keep Traffic Jam quite. Cos the 2nd festival is to be held at Alimas Ufaa Stage in October, while the winners await their award.

Covered by MTV and AOL? This is not true… Well the event in Maldives was not for sure. TVM is the only station which covered the event. Traphic Jam is still in Male’… they keep on delaying their UK tour (according to traphicjam its is pretty much a dream than a reality now). Jar Music and Fasylive got all the benefits… the rest of the bands (who played for free of cos) did not get any benefit. The whole Maldives Breakout festival is a Disapointment… well that’s my point of view of cos.
