A message to all local bands – Live Unplugged at Olympus

Maldives Entertainment Company Limited (a 100% government entity) would like to give an exciting opportunity to all local bands in Maldives to play at Olympus.  We have decided to host music shows every night at Olympus during Ramadan and would like your participation and support.

If you are interested and need more information, please contact me directly on fazu@maldivesentertainmentcompany.com , +960-3308891 0r +960-7776076.

We are in the earliest planning stages; and we already have a venue and a drive to start something for the youth entertainment! We hope to make these shows acceptable, your views and comments are very much appreciated.

This will be well publicized and with commitments from enough bands we would be able to make the shows very entertaining to our youth community.

Thanks for your time!

Everynight starting ramazan.. so that means if ramazan starts on 22nd, the first show will be that night… am i correct?

  2. Picasso Says:

No problem with the shows but hope this is not going to be another “Hafthaa nimun”. Wonder whats the entrance fees are like.. Cos free shows are detrimental to the musicians. This will definitely give the audience what they want without any cost, which consequently means no revenue for the artists. Of course the Entertainment Company might pay the musicians some fee but in the long run this is going to affect the industry badly. What will the artists do if the audience are not willing to pay for their music? How can the Entertainment Company survive?

  3. vaanekan Says:

30 days every night Live Unplugged Music, is this a joke?

  4. streettalk Says:

fazu pls giv more information pls? why unplugged only? what will the bands get?

  5. Frith Says:

Surely an overdose cos I don’t think the active audience would exceed 5000 meaning not more than 150 per night. In my opinion.

  6. fazu Says:

It doesn’t need to be only UNPLUGGED style.

We would like to get all your views on this and meet all the bands personally to get your opinions.

Yes, if the bands are ready, we would like to start the shows from the 1st of Ramazan

We would be selling the entrance ticket and the revenue would be shared with the bands. We have not yes decided on the price of the ticket. Need your opinion on this too.

Please feel free to contact me directly.

  7. schiff Says:

omg!! so many shows…… salhi ingey

  8. stickman0B Says:

dont think people would come everynight cox a show everynight would be boring, think atleast once a week would be more suitable :)

  9. Suddenly Says:

Great! i will contact you asap. it seems you are willing to cope with all that the bands need. main thing is to create an opportunity to have events held for bands to showcase their talents without having to save up their whole lives for just one event. i believe events can be costly and it is a great deal of team work which brings each event together. big or small.

    thank you .

what the entertainment company… when ever the government gets involved in art it [... del ...] the whole thing,, same shit with art gallery. so i suggest this company get couple of independent promoters get them to organize this event. that way they are doing a service for the industry. What music needs in maldives are smart promoters who can build a economy not a government owned company filled with losers who think they know too much.

  11. rebel Says:

Why unplugged? is’nt there any other way to get more info, other than emailing or calling??

  12. Addana Says:

I too sincerely hope that this doesn’t turn out to be another “Hafthaa Ninmun”. If you remember, that was an overdose if there ever was one. Every night is too many nights. The organisers would be well advised to spend some time rethinking this. We would just hate to see industrious musicians be left with the short straw. In the end, creativity would suffer, and a high price be paid for government-sponsored propaganda. This is pure and honest maldivian creativity and genius that’s at stake here after all.

  13. fazu Says:

wel…wht more information do you need?? why don’t you post it here.

  14. Musician Says:

i need you to be very transparent when working with the bands. no secret stuff.

Ideally organizations like this should be INDEPENDENT. NOT backed by the government. this is to decrease political influence.

I’d like to note that MEC has control over
    1 Olympus
    2 NCAs sound equipment
    3 NCAs lights equipment

Your company is at a BABY stage right now ( Do not be fooled by that event for Olympians, its not MEC who caused their success, it was the name Olympians created themselves which caused the events success). and we know that you need ALL THE MONEY YOU CAN GET at the moment. BUT Making a PROFIT out of such events is not the main goal you should be aiming for at the moment. but rather making a GOOD RELATION to existing established bands. even if u were aiming for profit.. how much extra would u make anyway? 3000 to 5000 bucks.. or even if it did reach upto 10,000RF, It is NOTHING compared to a SUCCESSFUL concert hosted by Maldives Entertainment Company and a Good band (I’m not talking about Olympians – lets open our eyes to the 21st Century guys.. there are much better bands out there now) with all due respect to the famous legends. its time everyone gave space to the new and upcoming bands.

Once you have achieved a successful show with a new band (or shall i say a more 21st century band) all the other bands will be convinced that the Maldives Entertainment Company is not so bad after all….. now you will get more and more gigs to host from then on. THERE IS THE MONEY YOU WANT.

Think long term.. or make a few bucks and get ready to close shop. just like any other organization run by the government.

Your previous tactics DO NOT work on musicians nowadays. Try to understand what were trying to do here. ask our opinions because that is only what will help your future. WE MUSICIANS HOLD THE KEY TO MUSICAL ENTERTAINMENT HERE AND WE KNOW IT… so get with it. proud to say it won’t be a difficult task to get all musicians on one side now to get things done the way WE WANT NOW.

as you say you are willing to change your ways in order to benefit the musicians, so instead of deciding whats best for us, ASK US BEFORE YOU DO ANYTHING.

  15. rebel Says:

    gr8 stuff Musician :D

well fazu we would like to know information like how UNPLUGGED the show’s are.. And which genre of Unplugged.. Unplugged can be arranged in several ways..if we are thinking music wise…

There are many new great bands in Maldives that need more places to show what they are capable of…. So only UNPLUGGED show’s is limiting the new age bands v much..

  16. 1984 Says:

i think they are pretty open with how the bands want to have the event.

  17. fazu Says:

We are having a meeting 2nite (31-08-09) @ 2100hrs @ MECL Office (near High Court). And would like to invite all the bands interested to perform.

  18. 1984 Says:

I’d like to say your concept seems quite favorable for the bands from what we’ve talked about at the meeting. All the best to MEC. Thanks for your support.

  19. 1984 Says:

Why is MECL a 100% government company when the government promotes privatisation?
